Welcome. The Nigerian Lifestyle launches today and I am so excited. I am starting a big journey and would like you to join me. Here is a short introduction to this blog and what it is all about.
Meet the Author
Hi. My name is Victory. I'm a 22-year-old intersectional feminist. I like sewing, eating, and hanging out with friends. I watch films in my spare time and I spend a lot of time on social media. Pop culture fascinates me and music is the absolute love of my life.
Why am I starting this blog?
Diary keeping is something I've always wanted to do but never really got around to. Having some free time as a result of the ASUU strike and needing something to do led me to start a diary-like blog.
Also, I want to share my opinion, thoughts, and experiences with the world. I am a believer in social justice. I want an end to oppression and marginalization of all kinds in Nigeria. One way to get there is by raising awareness.
In the spirit of resistance and taking up space, The Nigerian Lifestyle is live!
What are you to expect?
The whole theme of the blog can be summarized as taking a look at the Nigerian scene from a radical POV. This theme will be explored from any angle possible (no boundaries or conformity here!), but here are some of what you should expect:
Feminist content: It should not be news to any of us that Nigerian society is rooted in patriarchy. I will share content that centers around Nigerian women and misogyny, and how I make sense of social issues as a feminist.
Queer content: I will share content related to queer Nigerians, violence against them as well as discussions on queer people's art.
Music review and recommendations: The Nigerian music industry is dominated by cishet men. They have access to opportunities that misogyny and homophobia have denied women and queer people. They, on the other hand, have to do twice as much work for less profit. I will recommend and write reviews on great music by Nigerians who aren't cishet men from time to time to raise awareness and preserve their art all while keeping you entertained.
DIY Fashion: One important form of self-expression is one's fashion. On this blog, I will share easy and beautiful styles you can make by yourself even without a sewing machine. I will also post sewing tips and hacks.
Join me
I am really excited about sharing parts of myself and my thoughts as a young Nigerian woman with you. I want you to join me in this journey; it will be an insightful, educative and entertaining one.
I assure you that this blog will be consistent. I am willing to put my best into it because it is something I am interested in doing and I seem to have all the time in the world.
