On 19th April 2022, Uyi – a young Nigerian woman – released her afro-pop single, "Amebo" across all streaming platforms. This song is a blend of nice, catchy sound and an amazing pen game.

"Amebo" is a mix of sweet vocals and instrumentals. It is the kind of music that you catch yourself dancing to, or asking "What song is that?" about, or even a mix of both.

The producer, Dtalent, introduces us to the song with a rhythmic ṣẹ̀kẹ̀rẹ̀ sound which eventually fades into the background. This unique style caught my attention, and it was retained by the saxophone that comes after it. The saxophonist, Temi George, takes us on a great saxophone interlude close to the end of the song. And with Uyi's melodious voice, you just find yourself dancing until the end of the song.

"Said I'm done, it is not by force

And I know what I really want

And after giving you all my love

Said I'm done…"

The above excerpt from the chorus can be said to be the summary of the message of "Amebo". According to Uyi, the song was inspired by her falling out with a couple of friends and realizing that all they want is something to gossip about. This is clearly expressed in the lyrics of the song.

"Amebo" tells the story of a person who has realized a particular relationship is no longer beneficial and has decided they are done with it.

The contrast between the message of the song and the melodious tune makes "Amebo" peculiar. It shows the attitude of the artist towards the topic. It is not about mending a broken heart or holding on to beef. It is understanding that you deserve better than being some people's gist provider.

Uyi has given us a song people can love for different reasons.
