It's June bitches! Gay pride and my fucking birthday month (not that the latter matters, lol). Woke up today to rainbow flags all over my WhatsApp and I thought, "Yeah, it's that time of the year".
It is no news that queer people in Nigeria are not safe. As I write this blog post, a Nigerian gay pornstar whose name is still unknown is suffering at the hands of the Nigerian police. They have beaten and battered this guy for no other reason than his queerness.
Despite this unfortunate situation of things, a lot of Nigerian queers still live as their true selves, especially on social media platforms such as TikTok and Twitter. So, I have put together a list of queer Nigerian content creators to follow on TikTok. Enjoy!
@temmieovwasa: This is a personal favorite. Some of you may already know that Temmie is a no-nonsense person. Their content is both educational and entertaining. And, of course, there's a lot of patriarchy and homophobia smashing going on there. Visit their page.
@the.kohh: The kohh is a gender-fluid makeup artist, and he's good at that shit. His TikTok content revolves around makeup, transition videos and all that stuff. So if you're into that, check his page out.
@senaga_: This is an account I just discovered today, lol. She is a lifestyle content creator who just does her thing. She's a mother, and she shares gentle and intentional parenting tips. She's also a musician. You should check the page out.
@folafrancis: Fola Francis is an openly trans woman who creates lifestyle content on her TikTok page. Let me tell you, Fola is a Lagos big girl. She's always visiting these cool places and she shares her experiences with her audience. Another thing, she always looks good. Visit her page.
@the.oluwa.dare: Oluwadare is a non-binary model and fashion enthusiast. If you're into getting your daily dose of absolute hotness, you should check them out.
@thesisirainbow: I discovered this account through one of her videos with her cat, Wasiu, shared on a friend's WhatsApp status. I thought it'd be a cat content account, but even though it wasn't, I was not disappointed. She shares parts of herself on the page and occasional videos of Wasiu. Check her out.
@thisisrhema: I'll not lie to you, this dude only shows off his face in his content. You know all these selfie transitions? Yes, that's what he's into. If you want to be seeing fine boy, go and visit his page.
@nigeriandavidgreen: This is a vogue dance content account. This guy is really good at that stuff. You should visit his page.
@kayode_ani: Kayode's content revolves around raising awareness against homophobia in Nigeria and serving looks. Visit his page.
@almighty_nigerian: This is one of the earliest Nigerians to "blow" on TikTok. Are you into goofiness and cuteness? If yes, check his page out.
Please, recommend more Nigerian queers to follow on TikTok in the comment section. Please, don't air me ooo. Thank you.
